Hi, I'm Naila
the person behind Periodwise

I started Periodwise for a simple reason: my period is genuinely the worst. I get extremely painful periods, and I got sick of them interfering with my life and my productivity every single month. I tried so many things, went deep down the research rabbit hole, and kept wishing all of it lived in one honest, judgment-free place.
Then I went on birth control and saw a second problem: figuring out your options is genuinely hard. There are so many methods, so many trade-offs, and so much jargon standing between you and a confident decision. That experience became the other half of the inspiration for this site.
Periodwise is everything I wish I'd had — the science explained plainly, the options compared honestly, and none of the dismissiveness that so often comes with period pain.
A bit more about me
I study at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a Morehead-Cain Scholar, where I major in engineering and minor in creative writing.
I'm also the author of Chronicles of Illusions: The Blue Wild and Chronicles of Illusions: Bound by Dreams, both of which hit number one on Amazon's magical realism bestseller list. And in one of the stranger highlights of my life, I was one of five women featured on chocolate bar wrappers for Hershey's Her For She 2023 campaign.
